Since 1940, the relationship between marriage and education has been changing from negative to positive relationship as college-educated women are more likely to get married than less-educated counterparts (Torr, 2011). Interestingly, together with this trend is an increase in marriage where husbands are less educated than their wives (Fry & Cohn, 2010). These could be understood as a structural change in gender role as women stepped out of their traditional position in society and became the second breadwinner in their households.
